News Young Carer Service receives Lottery funding to Mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee We are extremely pleased to share that our Young Carer Service has been awarded a grant to put on our own community Platinum Jubilee party. £4.5 million of National Lottery funding has been awarded to communities across the UK so they can come together to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We’ll be holding our jubilee event on Friday 3rd June at our site in Highfield, Rowlands Gill. The day will bring together young carers from across Gateshead and older local residents. The idea of the party came from a group of young carers who wanted to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. They have planned the event and will prepare and serve refreshments, decorate the venue and arrange party games and entertainment for the afternoon. We will also have musical entertainment from the wonderful True Colours Theatre. We still need some help though! We’re particularly looking for any donations of cups, saucers and dinner plates that we can use on the day. The party will help to build relationships between young carers and older people in the local community. We hope this will be developed further through more projects and events in the future. Both young carers and our older community have been massively impacted by the pandemic. By bringing them together, they will both gain a better understanding of the issues each face. The event will also be a massive confidence boost for the young carers, who will be able to take pride in what they have achieved by organising the day. Local residents will receive an invitation closer to the event. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee party, held by Carers Trust Tyne & Wear Young Carers Service, is going to be a brilliant community event that helps to bring different generations together to commemorate and celebrate The Queen’s 70 year reign. We are grateful for the support of The National Lottery and the Platinum Jubilee Fund, which has kindly funded this event. Christine Tindale, Young Carer Support Worker. This vital funding has been awarded from The Platinum Jubilee Fund, which was launched in November last year as a £3.5 million programme with grants of up to £50,000 available to 70 organisations, celebrating Her Majesty’s 70 years of public service. As the Platinum Jubilee forms part of #Celebrate2022, a significant year of celebration and national pride, The National Lottery Community Fund has committed an additional £1 million to a further 22 community groups to ensure as many people as possible can come together to mark this momentous occasion.
