The 2020 lockdown saw a massive boom in fitness activities that we could do at home. While Joe Wickes and Peloton became household names, there were plenty of unsung heroes out there giving their time to keep our children and young people active.

Katie Symes runs FitMixx®️ - a dance, fitness and events business based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Katie's passionate about community fitness, which she's been teaching for over 10 years. Katie was even named 'Best UK Instructor 2020' at the National Community Fitness Awards.

Due to the Coronavirus lockdowns, Katie developed a range of online classes, which included Zumba Kids®️. Katie knew one of our Young Carer Team through her fitness classes, and decided to get in touch to offer free access to her online classes for our young carers - including a Zumba Kids Christmas Special!

I wanted to offer what I could, as I was thinking how tough it must be at the best of times for these children, let alone in the midst of Covid and at Christmas time. I was absolutely delighted to hear it brought some fun and smiles.

Katie has since offered free online access to her normal Zumba Kids class for young carers. As Katie says, it’s lovely to “pay it forward” when you can! You can check out Katie and FitMixx here
