News It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas for the Young Carer Service At this time of year we're usually busy distributing gifts for young carers donated by our supporters. Sadly, covid restrictions have made it very difficult for us collect and give out our usual sweets, toys and toiletries. But we didn't want to let that stop us sending out something special. It's fair to say 2020 hasn't been great for most of us. It's been particularly hard for carers. Many have found themselves isolated and having to provide even more support to their family. Young carers are no exception. At the height of the first lockdown, there were some who even reported spending 90 hours per week caring for a family member. While this won't have been the situation for most young carers, many have reported being less connected to others and experiencing increased worry and poor mental health. That's why the team wanted to send something special to show our appreciation to all of our young carers. The team have spent December buying craft packs, sweets and padded envelopes so we can post a special Christmas pack out to everyone. We've also put together a bumper newsletter, full of activities to do over the Christmas break, and made a special Christmas card from the team, just in case you'd forgotten what we look like! We're currently on a mission to get packs sent out to nearly 400 young carers before Christmas. If you haven't received yours yet, it will be in the post soon! The Young Carer Service sends out newsletters, activities and wellbeing resources all year round. This has become even more important as we continue to face restrictions on meeting up. As more young carers join the service, postage becomes more expensive. Donate here to help us keep posting!
